Yrs the batteries do not last long,but they will last longer if the charge is not dropped below a certain level. If batteries are drained a lot and not charged up they will fail quicker…. I am using batteries that ar eover 10 years.We have to keep them from going below a certain voltage or they lose their charge capaicty. A laptop will use about 70 watts by the way of power when on. hope that helps… Kepe monitoring your battery voltages from getting too low.

Well I just purchased 10w worth of cells as for the battery bank idea it does work but it has been since 2001 since I lived off the grid but car or heavy duty truck batteries and even used those heavy golf cart ones to but they ware out after a while. Will try to build up to 60w worth of solar.

I would say that 55 watts of solar should do the trick,but if it`s not sunny then youll struggle!! You need to keep something like 110 amp battery at 12 volts from discharging too…. I`d try and get 2 old batteries to keep the price of your system down.hope that helps.I have some solar videos on my account.

This is a pretty primitive toy at best.
One must remember there is no way to save money on anything as an early adopter. I sold my first flat panel TV’s for $12,500. for a 42″. Now you can buy 55” sets that blow them away for under $1000. Economies of scale take over in time with volume.

I have the same solar kit as Dan, but mine just shows a maximum no load voltage of 14 volts on the regulator even with all three panels plugged in under full sunlight. When I test the panel voltage with a multemeter they show 22 volts each. On this video the voltmeter shows 22 volts when all the loads are unplugged. Is the regulator broken or am I being missing something? Any ideas?

lol…i saw this video and i went to get my solar panels at harbor freight here in orange county california….i also got a 12 volt deep cycle marine battery and a 750 pure sine inverter….i was charging my lap top my flashlight and my cell phone….i love it….i’m actually considering getting my batteries and several more panels…in the future…thanks dan for the educational info..
